Drug Uses

YAZ®(drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) birth control pill is designed to prevent pregnancy for the adult women, who are looking for oral contraceptive measures. Warnings/Precautions

YAZ contains a different kind of hormone, drsp® (drospirenone), which may increase potassium. Therefore, you should not take YAZ if you have kidney, liver, or adrenal disease because this could cause serious heart and health problems. Tell you doctor if you are on long-term treatment for a chronic condition such as cardiovascular disease or chronic inflammatory disease. Women who take certain drugs (See Below) should have their potassium levels checked in the first month of taking YAZ. Do not take Yaz without first talking to your doctor if you have had a stroke, heart attack, or blood clot; high blood pressure, angina, or heart disease; a bleeding or blood-clotting disorder; breast, uterine, or another hormone-related cancer; or undiagnosed, abnormal vaginal bleeding. Yaz is in the FDA pregnancy category X. This means that it has been reported to cause birth defects in an unborn baby. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can have very serious negative effects on a developing baby. Do not take drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol if you are pregnant or if you think you might be pregnant. Yaz passes into breast milk and may decrease milk production. Missed Dose

A) If you miss 1 Pink "active" pill:

Either you will be a first day starter or first Sunday.
1. In case, you are first day starter when your period started on first day, your cycle of using Yaz birth control pills is very much out of the schedule. Hence, please throw out the rest of pills pack and start a new pack on the same day.
2. In case, you are a first Sunday starter, please continue taking one pill every day until Sunday. On Sunday, please throw out the rest of pills packet and start a new pack on the same day.
3. You may not have period this month but could be expected. However, if you do not have periods for two months consecutively, you might be pregnant and you need to consult your doctor immediately. 4. Your chances of becoming pregnant will be high in this case if you have sex within 7 days after you missed your dose. You will be required to use back-up birth control methods (such as condoms or spermicides) for these crucial 7 days.
D) If you miss 3 or more Pink active pills in all three weeks
1. If you are a first starter, throw out the rest of the pills pack and start the new pack on the same day because your cycle of using Yaz birth control pills is disturbed.
2. if you are a first Sunday starter, please continue taking one pill every day until Sunday. On Sunday, please throw out the rest of pills packet and start a new pack on the same day.
3. You may not have period this month but could be expected. However, if you do not have periods for two months consecutively, you might be pregnant and you need to consult your doctor immediately.

In all cases where you missed to take Pink active birth control pills, you can use back-up birth control methods (such as condoms or spermicides) if you wish to have sex and consult with your healthcare professional or doctor for continuation of future Yaz birth control pills dosages.do not give it to others who may want birth-control pills.

Possible Side Effects

Women over 35 years of age and smoking are strictly not advised to take Yaz or any other oral contraceptives as it may increase the chances of cardiovascular side effects including blood clots, stroke, and heart attack.
- During the initial treatment of Yaz birth control pills, women (greater than 1%) may experience side effects like headache, breast tenderness, upper respritory vaginal yeast infection and excessive vaginal discharge.
- Women using Yaz birth control pills during premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) may experience intermenstrual bleeding, breast pain, headache, nausea, upper respiratory infection, suspicious Pap smear and loss of strength.

Overdose

In women and girls (even young children), an overdose of Yaz may cause vaginal bleeding. An overdose of any birth control pill (including Yaz) may cause nausea and vomiting. Unlike most other birth control pills, Yaz can increase the level of potassium in the blood. This may be severe in the case of a Yaz overdose. High blood potassium (known medically as hyperkalemia) can be quite dangerous.
